Hi there, I'm Dawn Casteel! Welcome to the Up North Learning Center (UNLC). This is my third year as a principal, however, it is my 23rd year in education.  I started my career in early childhood education as a preschool teacher.  Soon after, I realized that I loved teaching and decided to expand my experience in education by taking classes and exploring related opportunities such as:  Early Childhood Special Education, Behavior Specialist, Resource Room Teacher, and Special Education Coordinator.

It is my belief that Children learn best in safe, collaborative, and flexible environments with high expectations. In order to create this environment, educators must be life-long learners, encourage parent and community involvement, and creatively collaborate to ensure that all students’ educational needs are met. I truly believe that all students can learn at high levels when supported by a community of educators that is invested in what is best for children.

When I’m not working or taking classes I enjoy being with my family and my dogs either hiking, fishing, kayaking, boating, skiing, snowshoeing, going to hockey or baseball games, reading, crocheting and a variety of other activities.
